Anthony Batista, freelance photographer since 2009 and based in France (South West coast). Self taught for many years I joined Newcastle College in 2008 to complete the NCFE certificate. A mixture of artists there helped me develop my own photographic vision. I lived in Newcastle upon Tyne for 7 years and this city deeply inspired my work and my life vision. I try not to limit myself to a single genre of photography in order to explore all the aspects of my creativity.

My technique is based on long exposure and the use of several different light sources. Moonlight is essential in my photography as it contributes to the mood and the composition of my photographs. I like to work this way because photography then becomes a slow process enabling me to extract a very personal mood and atmosphere of a particular place. Places dictate my photography, not the opposite. I need to feel the soul of a place in order to trigger my camera.

I work both on film and digital formats. They allow me to create different images and they are sometimes mixed together. I usually take photographs of places without people in them. This is a deliberate choice as I try to extract the soul of a place.
